Einstein’s “General Theory of Relativity” states that massive objects cause a distortion in space-time, and it was proven in September 14, 2015. The Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) uses lasers to detect ripples in the space-time fabric. These ripples were caused by two, billion year old black holes that circled each other near the speed of light, and eventually collapsed into one black hole with the equivalent mass of 62 suns. The ripples faded with time and only a small change in space-time reached Earth.
